28 weeks pregnant and dr prescribed tylenol with codein due to pain with wisodom teeth?

so i had my prenatal appaointment today and i have been in massive pain for my wisodome teeth are coming through so my dr prescribed tylenol w/ codine only 5 pills till i go to dentist how safe do ppl think it is to take this being so far along?? worried that it might hurt my baby

I have severe migraines which became more common during my second pregnancy. I also was taking a pain med with codeine in it. The one I was on was considered a Category C (actually kindof a B- according to my doctor). When it%26#039;s a Category C, there%26#039;s a small possibility of harm to the baby, but it%26#039;s considered better than the mother being in terrible pain where the stress can hurt the infant also. I had to take my med once every week or so throughout my entire pregnancy and my doctor said that was just fine. There%26#039;s a website that you can look up drugs and what category they fall in for infants. It%26#039;s www.safefetus.com (I think for what you%26#039;d look for, it would be under just codeine and not under Tylenol). Anyway, don%26#039;t worry about it, many, many doctors have prescribed a codeine-type drug during pregnancies. Just take it when the pain is too much to handle. Hope you have an excellent pregnancy!
Reply:Your Dr. would not give you something that would hurt your baby. If you have so little faith in this Dr. why haven%26#039;t you found another one?
Reply:It wont hurt the baby!!! I had to take that after I had surgery when I was 16 weeks!!! My doctor assured me that it wouldn%26#039;t hurt the baby! But the less you take of it, the better off the baby will be!!!





If you are in pain, that puts stress on the baby!!! So don%26#039;t be afraid to take that!!! I am 28 weeks too!!!

Reply:I had to have my appendix out at 22 weeks and I was on morphine and Darvoset and a lot of other stuff for about 2 weeks. The baby was fine!





If you only take the 5 pills, you%26#039;ll be OK.
Reply:It won%26#039;t hurt your baby. Trust the doctor he wouldn%26#039;t give you something harmful.
Reply:I was on Tylenol 3 with my first and 3rd child. With my first child she sat on my sciatic nerve and would not move. and with my 3rd i was having migraines really bad. The doctor will not give you anything that will hurt the baby. Promise..3 to show for it. Plus is was taking Motrin 800ml with them too. Your good.

Codine is one of the drugs that during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks, the doctor can prescribe it.


The main risk is addiction, and with only 5 pills, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. It can also slow your breathing rate, but that only happens when you take a pretty hefty dose.


I promise you won%26#039;t hurt yourself or the baby by taking them. I was prescribed 20 loritabs once by my OB for pain.


And besides...it beats the heck out of suffering tooth pain!
