That is horrible! But first of all...are you absolutely positive that he actually severed a nerve? Maybe you are just numb from the pain of the extraction. I remember when I got my wisdom teeth out I couldn%26#039;t feel anything for like two weeks and then feeling eventually returned after everything healed. If he did sever a nerve then there is no way of getting it back...but hey, it might be a good thing, you can get punched in the jaw and won%26#039;t feel it! You need to go see this dentist again, and see what%26#039;s up. (I bet he is probably so scared that you might sue him now!)
I had my wisdom teeth extracted. The Dr severed a nerve %26amp; now I have no feeling in my lower jaw and gums.Advice
You needed to have that looked at a while ago. Nerve repair can be done that will restore some of the sensation. However, after one year the success rate goes way down. Go to an oral surgeon for an evaluation, and he can refer you to the right person if he doesn%26#039;t do it.
Reply:If after 1 year, the sensations not back, you need to see an oral surgeon or neuro surgeon that specializes in %26quot;mandibular nerve re-anastomosis%26quot; Just a fancy way to say they put the nerve back together. The chances of this happening are about the same as your chances of getting hit by a car. Not something that happens alot, but does happen.
They can try a surgery, but they won%26#039;t guarantee it%26#039;ll work. Best to get some opinions though
Reply:Same thing happened to me. Nothing you can do about it.
